The Project Management Behind the Tennessee River Crossing

Kurt Stafford is the Engineering Manager of Tennessee American Water, the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water services to approximately 390,000 people.  In this role, Mr. Stafford is responsible for overseeing the engineering team and related functions within the state.  

Mr. Stafford is a Professional Engineer who has over 17 years of experience in the water and wastewater utility industry spanning both the public and private sectors.  He joined the Tennessee American Water Team in 2016.  Prior to that, he served as a Team Leader at the Knoxville Utilities Board in Knoxville, TN.  There he managed water and wastewater capital and O&M budgets in addition to overseeing and mentoring engineering teams.  Mr. Stafford was heavily involved in KUB’s $530M PACE-10 Program which helped identify and resolve sanitary sewer overflows.  He has an extensive background in project management and utility construction.

Mr. Stafford holds a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering and City Planning from the University of Tennessee.  Additionally, he also received an MBA from Tennessee Tech.   He is an active member in several organizations including the American Water Works Association, Water Environment Federation and the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.
