Thomas Castillo

Director of Operational Excellence, Mueller Company

Topic: Lean 101 Introduction & Lean Thinking

Thomas Castillo is a graduate from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and has eight years of service with the United States Army as a Signal Officer. He has worked for companies such as EcoLab as a production engineer, Lam Research as a manufacturing and design engineer, and Acuity Brands Lighting as a Lean deployment leader.

Currently, he works at Mueller Company in Chattanooga as the Director of Operational Excellence, and has been working there for more than eight years. He was initially trained in Lean deployment systems by the Shingijutsu Consultants in Japan, and has used it throughout his career. Additionally, he spoke with a colleague at the 2016 Association for Manufacturing Excellence conference, the world’s largest Lean conference, in Dallas with the following topic: “Achieving breakthrough results using Lean as a competitive weapon: Utilizing daily management and coaching techniques.”

He lives in Ooltewah, TN with his wife (pictured above), three children, and nephew. He actively participates in Grace Pointe Church, and holds a position on the Church board. With a love of tennis, he plays in the local tennis league and shows his competitive edge by consistently ranking in the top three players of the season. He also enjoys Marvel comics, and has been an avid comic book collector since he was a child.
