What a time to be a part of the international project management movement happening in today’s business world! As our professional and personal environments continue to change, the skills of our project management leaders are becoming highly sought after. Business problems and solutions are growing in complexity at a rapid rate! It is an honor to be a member of PMI, the world’s leading not-for-profit project management professional association. PMI was established in 1969, now boasting over 200,000 members across 150 countries.
Did you know that our Chattanooga PMI Chapter represents about 400 members across a wide variety of industries and complex disciplines in the Chattanooga Area, ranging from non-profit, healthcare, energy, government, retail, and manufacturing, to consulting and more? The Chattanooga PMI Chapter is composed of professionals from diverse industries who share the common goal to practice project management based on standards set forth by the Project Management Institute.
Our members bring their skills & expertise to the table, and they represent a varied social, cultural, and generational diversity. The local chapter also possesses dedicated leadership with the PMI Chattanooga Chapter Board of Directors.
People coming from different domains have a lot to teach one another, as do the associations that serve them. We intend to bring people and organizations together to offer quality content and advanced learning opportunities that will help make everyone a better version of themselves.
Thank you for this fabulous opportunity to serve you in this capacity as we look to the future!! It is my privilege and honor to serve you all, as the President - Board of Directors for the Chapter in 2022.
As I am writing this letter on MLK Day, a day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities, I am reminded that this spirit of service and human kindness should not be limited to a single day. We should ask ourselves what are we doing to make a difference in someone else’s world on a daily basis. The question is: What am I doing, what are you doing, what are WE doing the other 364 days? One small way my peers are making a difference is by volunteering their personal time to lead this chapter, I want to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers, our Board Members, and our partners who invest their valuable time volunteering for the PMI Chattanooga Chapter and you, our members.
One of the first things that I did when I joined PMI Chattanooga took the time to understand the culture and the strategies of the organization. I was pleased to see the alignment with a vision to do the following:
- Deliver value to our current members
- Promote the PMI standards
- Attract new board members and new chapter members
- Promote new ideas and provide creative solutions to complex business problems
- Provide benefits to the PMI community
2022 started with a wave of changes
- A new COVID variant, Omicron,
- A new wave of weather-related catastrophes impacting people, businesses, and communities,
- A new wave of resignation, inflation, and the economy.
With these changes, we are all learning to adapt and become more resilient. We are thinking ‘outside the box’ about ways to make our world a better place to live. We all continue to adapt on a daily basis. Project Management empowers people to move solutions from ideas to reality.
Project management skills do not just help organizations get things done; they help people get things done, inside and outside of work.
- Who is managing their kids’ schedules, sports teams, or other activities?
- Who is managing a multi-million-dollar program with difficult stakeholders and tight deadlines?
- Who is leading a community project?
- Who is planning to build a home?
Each of these leaders needs project management skills. Our chapter is composed of these types of leaders fulfilling these roles every day.
Individuals and organizations can change the world, one project at a time. We empower individuals with skillsets to solve local and global challenges. It is just the right thing to do.
Organizations will see a clear link between the upskilling that PMI delivers to its members and their organizational success.
We provide development opportunities to our members through training, monthly programs, networking, and community volunteer work, as well as knowledge and information sharing via our website.
